Lee Page Henderson Ceramics

Introduction

As a photographer, I’m always on the lookout for interesting subjects to capture through my lens. Recently, I had the opportunity to photograph Lee Page Hanson, a talented ceramic artist who creates stunning slab pots and vases. During our photoshoot, I was able to witness firsthand the dedication and passion that goes into creating these beautiful works of art.

One of the most fascinating things about photographing Lee was seeing the techniques he uses to create his work. Lee’s slab pots and vases are made using a variety of techniques, including coloured slips, paper resist under-glaze pencil, lace and wallpaper embossing, and on-glaze lustre decoration. The result is a form of ceramic collage that is both visually striking and technically impressive.

As a photographer, it was important for me to capture the essence of Lee’s work in my images. I used a mix of documentary and portrait shots to showcase the precision and care that goes into each slab pot and vase. I photographed Lee in his studio, surrounded by his tools and materials, giving viewers a sense of the environment in which he works. I also captured the finished works against a plain backdrop, using a combination of natural and artificial lighting to highlight the unique shapes and patterns.

One of the challenges of photographing Lee’s work was capturing the intricate details that make his creations so special. I used a variety of camera angles and lenses to capture the different textures and shapes of the pots and vases. I also worked closely with Lee to ensure that the lighting and composition of each shot captured the essence of his work.

Overall, photographing Lee and his slab pots and vases was a truly rewarding experience. As a photographer, I always strive to capture the beauty and uniqueness of my subjects, and Lee’s work provided a wealth of visual inspiration. The techniques he uses to create his work are not only visually impressive, but also a testament to his dedication and love for his craft. I hope that these photographs will help to inspire others to explore their own artistic passions and appreciate the beauty of handmade ceramics.
