Ellie's Gift

Recently, I had the honour of creating a short promotional film for Ellie’s Gift — a heartfelt charity that offers support to families experiencing the loss of a baby.

Founded by Lucy in memory of her daughter Ellie, the charity’s flagship service is a beautifully designed app that provides emotional and practical support to parents facing baby loss. The app offers hypnobirthing-based techniques, relaxation MP3s, calming videos, birth plans, and hospital checklists — all created to guide families gently through the most difficult of times.

The aim of the video was to raise awareness of the app and how it can help, while remaining incredibly sensitive to the subject matter. The interview with Lucy formed the emotional centre of the film. Her openness and strength gave the project its voice. To support this, I used soft lighting, composed b-roll, and a calm, reassuring voiceover to match the tone and intent of the app.

One of the most meaningful aspects of this project was the care taken in every stage of production — from the interview setup to the post-production pacing — ensuring nothing ever felt intrusive or overwhelming. It was storytelling with empathy at its core.

The app is currently being piloted at St. Mary’s Hospital, a reflection of the app’s clinical credibility.

Lucy describes the app as Ellie’s gift — a way of helping other parents find calm, strength, and even moments of peace during an otherwise traumatic time. It was a privilege to help bring that message to life.
